BOZAR

A few weeks ago, I went to see the Cy Twombly exhibition in the Bozar in Brussels.  Besides Cy Twombly, I also took a look at NICHE, Bozar’s micro exhibition of young Belgian architecture and the Image / Construction ‘3 cities’ series.  These three exhibitions are still showing, so I suggest you pay a visit to the Bozar soon!

DARE ALLA LUCE

“Through small deliberate interventions, I altered these vintage images, allowing light to pass through them. (After all, photographs are made possible with light.) In a literal and somewhat playful manner, I aimed to give the photographs back to the light, hence the title of the series, Daré alla Lucé, an Italian phrase used to describe the moment of birth.”

PRETTY THINGS: interior design

  1.  Plant stands made out of wire, available here.  (source)
  2. Seppl is a porcelain espresso maker designed by Arvid Haeusser.  (source)
  3. Oven gloves with that perfect black and white print by RK design, available here.
  4. I’d love to own this Airplane Doorstop, although a doorstop probably is the last thing I need.  I just can’t resist a paper plane.  (source)
  5. Niels Datema‘s bread spoons each serve as a measuring tool that gives the correct quantities of flour, water, yeast, sugar and oil to bake the perfect loaf of bread.  (source)
  6. Japanese designers Nendo‘s line 1% products is so perfect in all of it’s simplicity: these block vases for example, can be stacked together like building blocks.  (source)
  7. Dino salad servers from howkapow.  (source)

THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE

1.  Clever business cards. (source unknown)

2.  The coolest  sinks ever by Romualdo Faura and Tengchuan Tey.  This would surely get kids to wash their hands!  (source)

3.  Magda Sayeg, the queen of yarn bombing!  I wish she’d tackle our Belgian public transport…  (source)

4.  Facades in a rainbow of colors.  (source unknown)

5.  The best way  to start your day.  (source)

6.  A polka dotted house.  (source)

7.  ‘Save Food From the Fridge‘ is a project by Jihyun Ryou, who crafted a series of food storage contraptions that counter the hidden, black box technology of the refrigerator by relying on traditional oral knowledge that has been accumulated from experience.  Very interesting!  (source)

8.  Maddie appeared on many blogs (and on many other things, ha), but I think she still deserves a spot in this list!  (source)

9.  Animal parade spice shakers?  Yes please!  (available here)

10.  Handy paper clips.  (source)

WE ARE NEVER GOING TO BE AS YOUNG AS WE ARE TONIGHT

Yesterday I showed you how amazing the Existenz Maximum location looked this year, today I’ll give you an impression of what happened there at night…  There was a lot of dancing, making new friends (preferably with tiger socks), dressing up to do the lindy hop, cosmic leggings and surprised people gazing out the window at the construction workers who started destroying the other part of the building while we hadn’t made it to our beds yet.  What a week!

EXISTENZ MAXIMUM 2012

Remember this?  Like every year, the Existenz Maximum week took place in an abandoned building in Leuven, this time the old management buildings of Stella were the place to be.  Unlike last year, I’m no part of the Existenz team anymore, which meant I could fully enjoy all of it!  Of course I never let an opportunity pass by to take photograph or two, so here’s a first small (hmm) selection!

PRETTY THINGS: paper & packaging

1.  Cold Spring Aptohecary has the most beautiful packaging and a very environmental friendly philosophy too.  Too good to be true, you say?

2.  Pretty tape with pretty hipster triangles.  Availble at seventy tree.

3.  Unfortunately, this branding and packaging is for a fictional flower shop, but if it looks this good and if it’s named after a joy division song, someone should make this happen.

4.  Colorful goodie bags, and apparently not that hard to make at all.  (source)

5.  Wonderful decoration.  (source)

6.  Perfect basic calendar from rk design.  (Unfortunately sold out, but I don’t think it’s that hard to make one yourself, shh.)  Don’t forget to check out the designer’s blog, it’s one of my favorites!

7.  Since I know absolutely nothing about wine, I always choose wine according to the most beautiful packaging (preferably with animals on it).  Unfortunately, pretty designs are quite hard to find in our local supermarket.  If only I would find this bottle of wine on the shelves!  (source)
