THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE

1.  “On this day” calendar: every day there’s another black box to rub, which will reveal an interesting factoid that happened on that date in history.  I have a good feeling somebody I know would be thrilled to have this and share these facts with us every day.  You know who you are!

2.  A tiny T-Rex in a bottle.  Akinobu Izumi makes architectural models by day and tiny world in a bottle objects by night.  You can buy them here.

3.  Surprising details on sunglasses.  (source)

4.  Fat cookies: three friends selling their self-baked cookies from their appartment on the second floor in a very original way: you pull the string, put a dollar in the paper bag, they pull it up, change the dollar for a cookie and let the bag back down again.  More info on their facebookpage.  (source)

5.  Bunny in a parrot suit and other bunnies in birdsuits by Bayley Collins, prints available here.

6.  “Koken met Karin“, or cooking with Karin.  I have yet to try her recipes, but if they turn out as lovely as her hand written recipes look, it ought to be delicious!

7. Yau Hoong Tang‘s interpretations of playing cards.  Take a look here! (source)

8.  Katie Sokoler’s heart-shaped vines.  See for yourself how she made them here.

9.  Conde Elevator, a twitterpage sharing all kinds of quotes heared in the elevators of the Vogue building.  Yummy!

PRETTY THINGS: books

1.  Antwerp Street Style by Jens Mollenvanger, a young photographer from – you guessed it – Antwerp.  (available here)

2.  Firework Studies by Pierre Le Hors: breathtakingly beautiful.  (source)

3.  Pulled, a catalog of screen printing.  I have two friends who’d be thrilled to have this book, since they’re screen printing their own t-shirts, but I’d be very pleased too.  (available here)

4.  Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey.  True fan here, no explanation needed! (available here)

5.  If you’re not familiar with the if you leave tumblr yet, check it out now.  If you are, you know you should check out their book too.  They describe it as “a collection of contemporary photography, snapshots of a journey made by wanderers who study the mysterious yet uncannily peaceful feeling of desolation and loneliness. it is more concerned with the impact of a single image, rather than a body of work by an individual photographer.”  Sounds promising, if you ask me.    (soon availble here)

6. Aberrant Necropolis by Ellen Rogers.  You can take a peek at some of her pictures here, prepare yourself for some amazing photographs.

IN THE STREETS OF LISBON

I’ve finally gone through all my pictures of my trip to Lisbon, and I present you here the first batch!  Today I’m showing you some photos of which I hope they’ll give you an impression of what a lovely city Lisbon is and how many beautiful and colorful streets you come across when taking a walk through the city.

SHADOW

This is one of my favourite photos of my trip to Lisbon: an old man, waiting for the fish to bite (his fishing rods are outside of the view), who found that one spot of shadow on the sunny quay.

PS.  Now we’re talking about my photos of Lisbon: I’ve finally sorted all of them out and you can expect many posts about my trip soon!

CASTELO DE SÃO JORGE

One of the many places you must certainly visit when staying in Lisbon is the castelo de São Jorge.  The ruins of this castle offer an amazing view over the city and taking a walk through the castle while running into the many peacocks that enjoy it’s garden is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon.

GOOD LIFE

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiEJlRFyf1s]
Press play to get the right soundtrack with these pictures of our trip to Worldwide Festival, in the South of France.  They’re all taken with a disposable camera, hence the poor quality, but I think they give a good impression of what an amazing trip this has been.  Here you can find some videos by “Brussels’ bearded wonder” Lefto (who did an amazing set at WF), which give a pretty good impression of the festival aswell.

On our way to the South of France.

Scary little bridge.

Our camping spot.

Théatre de la mer, this is where we saw James Blake.  (Here‘s a video of the show, I get goose bumps every time I rewatch this.)

Every night, we danced under that lighthouse.

We ate the best pizza ever on the edge of the water.

Dancing on the beach.

THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE

1. D-BROS created envelopes with small tabs that after opening give the illusion of car exhaust.  They also come in a train and plane version! (source)

3.  Angela of Beat up Creations turns old plates into little pieces of art by creating images of animal headed people and applying it to the china.  If I could have breakfast from one of her plates every morning, my day would always start with a smile!  (source)
