It’s been a year and a half since my latest living room update and a lot has changed since then! A few months after my last update, my boyfriend moved in with me and while he didn’t bring a lot of furniture (that’s an understatement), we were in desperate need of some more storage space.  Staying home for the past year made us very aware of other aspects we wanted to change.  A dividing curtain between the sofa and our “hallway” is still on my wishlist (but probably won’t happen as we’re hoping to buy a house soon), but other than that this room feels pretty finished to me! Curious for the result?  Read along!

My boyfriend brought only one piece of furniture and it’s a true eye-catcher!  The gorgeous chest of drawers is a family heirloom, that was made to measure for his family’s lace store.  The hardware and wood form a lovely match with our hardwood floors and the vintage pieces I already had.  The sideboard fit perfectly into the empty spot next to the fireplace and looks as if it was always a part of this interior!

We tackled the other side of the mantle (also known as our hallway) with a Loophole organizer, kindly gifted by Atelier Belge.  It’s the ideal tool to keep our face masks organized, store our keys and check our reflection one last time before leaving the house.

Our “hallway” got another update with some simple Bestå cabinets by Ikea.  Thanks to the big drawers they can store a lot of stuff (from rarely worn shoes to backpacks or picnic blankets)?  They also double as a seating spot where we can put on our shoes, while keeping the visual clutter to a minimum. A big arch shaped mirror (it was love at first sight when I spotted it on the Made website) forms the finishing touch to our “hallway”.

Last but not least, we exchanged our simple IKEA racks for a vintage shelving system by Poul Cadovius.  As our book collection kept growing and our racks weren’t exactly the most sturdy or luxrious, I’d been keeping an eye on bookshelves and wall systems for a while.  The moment I saw the Abstracta design, I knew I found the one!  With a metal frame mixed with wooden and glass shelves, it has that vintage but not retro vibe that I love. Thanks to its modular concept we could easily adapt it to fit our new home if we would move in to the future. They are still in production at the moment, but we opted for the vintage version as the materials matched our home better and it’s the more sustainable option!
