My obsession with interior design and architecture started when I just learned how to read and discovered my parents’ collection of interior magazines. At the time, they were decorating their newly built home and took my little sister and me to quite a few interior design stores. While some kids undoubtedly might have found this boring, I absolutely loved it. I still vividly remember when they took us to Master Meubel, where I was almost star-struck upon seeing all these designs I knew from the magazines in real life, not to mention how impressed I was with the stunning modernist architecture. You can imagine my delight when they contacted me to collaborate!
I wasn’t only excited because of nostalgia though, since I was in need of a second opinion on some interior dilemma’s. As my friend Anouk puts it, “lamps are the jewellery of your interior” and I couldn’t agree more. I wanted to invest in a timeless design piece that would be the proverbial cherry on the cake in our dining room, but felt hesitant to make a decision. I had my eye on a design by Michael Anastassiades, the FLOS IC suspension lamp in black, but wasn’t sure about the size and wondered if I had overlooked other options. In other words, I needed someone with experience in interior design and a wide knowledge of other options. Needless to say, Master Meubel’s 35 years of experience, collection of over 130 brands and team of interior interior architects were exactly what I’d been looking for!
With a few photos, a quickly drawn plan (putting that architecture education to good use) and a little video tour of our apartment in hand (this Virgo is never unprepared!), the boyfriend and I headed to Master Meubel. We explained our search for a timeless yet eye-catching lamp to one of their interior architects. She showed us a ton of options, both around the store and in folders. We ended up with two contenders: the Flos IC S1 and the Hand Grenade pendant light by Artek, both in black. After careful consideration we decided on my first choice, feeling sure this was the perfect match that we’d love for years to come. We opted for Master Meubel to deliver and install the lamp, taking one last worry out of our hands, and we couldn’t be happier with the result!
While we were at Master Meubel, we also took advantage of the expertise at our disposal to discuss some of our other interior struggles (like the lay-out of living room, which makes it impossible to fit the boyfriend’s beamer), which the interior architect kindly advised us on, even though we had no intention or budget to invest in the living room right away. We left the store feeling excited about our order, inspired for future alterations to our home and eager to come back when we’ll have saved up for our next design piece!

Wat een prachtige lamp! Ik vind verlichting soms nog best lastig, vooral wanneer je een grote open ruimte hebt (living – open keuken) waar dan meerdere lampen hangen. Jullie zijn goed geslaagd!
